Membership Categories

Member of Council

Members of CESA are those schools that are fully accredited by an organization with either national standing as a member of a nationally recognized association or with state standing as a member of an association with state-wide recognition and have completed and passed the CESA School Certification Audit.

Candidate School

The Candidate Schools category is reserved for schools that have applied for membership after September 1, 2014.  Candidate Schools are eligible after applying if they are fully accredited by an organization with either national standing as a member of a nationally recognized association or with state standing as a member of an association with state-wide recognition.

Requirements for Membership

  • Schools interested in membership must adhere to the CESA statement of faith.
  • All schools interested in full membership must be fully accredited.
  • All schools interested in full membership must go through the School Certification Audit process.
  • Schools that do not meet the Standards of Accountability may become affiliate members.
  • Schools that are not accredited may join CESA as aspiring schools as they work toward accreditation, affiliate membership, and ultimately, full membership.

Steps to Membership

  • All interested schools must complete the CESA Application for Membership and be approved by the CESA Board of Directors for candidate status.
  • All candidates for membership must be regionally accredited through their regional accrediting body.
  • Following approval for candidacy, schools must complete the CESA Written School Evaluation.
  • Following submission of Written School Evaluation, school will set up CESA School Audit with the CESA office.
  • Following CESA School Audit process, CESA Board of Directors, in conjunction with CESA auditors, will determine membership status.
  • Every four years, schools will schedule a CESA School Audit, complete the written audit and schedule a CESA School Audit.

Member Expectations

  • All members of CESA are expected to continually seek superlative academic standards, institutional best practices, and collaborate with like‑minded schools.
  • Because CESA is a fraternal organization, leaders from CESA member schools are expected to commit time and energy to helping members, affiliate members, and aspiring schools seek improvement, alongside of their own schools.
  • The foundational commitments of CESA schools are:
    • Professionalism
    • Educational excellence
    • Distinctiveness
    • Commitment to the development and support of other CESA schools
    • Promotion of excellence in international Christian schooling

The CESA Certification Process

  • Upon completion of the Written School Evaluation and the School Certification Audit processes, the Board of Director, in conjunction with the CESA auditors assigned to the school applying for membership, will determine if the school has satisfactorily passed the audit and determine if they are certified as a CESA Member School.
  • The certification process is meant to be a rigorous process that helps schools improve throughout the completion of the process and develop long-range initiatives for continual improvement.
  • The certification process is meant to stretch even the best schools so that they may not be satisfied with the status quo.
  • The certification process is ongoing as schools must seek re-certification every fourth year.
  • A CESA certification signifies the school receiving full membership status has completed a rigorous course of action, and is also committed to ongoing growth and development.
